User-centric Design

Design everything from the user's experience backward to the engineering. Wozniak built the Apple II so that a regular person could unbox it and start using it — an idea considered radical when computers were for specialists.

Steps

1

Before building anything, describe in one sentence what the user should feel when they use it

2

Watch a real user interact with your current design without helping or explaining

3

Write down every point where they hesitated, frowned, or asked a question

4

Redesign to eliminate the three biggest friction points you observed

5

Test again with a new user — iterate until the experience matches your one-sentence vision
