Public debate

Test your ideas in the open by defending them against genuine opposition. Socrates debated in the Athenian agora because ideas that survive public scrutiny are far stronger than private convictions.

Steps

1

Choose a belief or position you hold strongly and find someone who disagrees

2

Present your argument clearly and concisely, then invite direct challenge

3

Listen to the counterargument fully before responding — no interruptions

4

Acknowledge any point where your opponent is right before defending your position

5

After the debate, write down what you learned and where your argument was weakest
