Intuitive Interfaces

Create interfaces so natural that instructions become unnecessary. Wozniak's design philosophy held that the best technology disappears — users should think about their task, never about the tool.

Steps

1

Study three interfaces you love and identify what makes them feel invisible

2

Map the user's mental model — what do they expect to happen when they take an action?

3

Remove every element that does not directly serve the user's immediate goal

4

Use progressive disclosure: show only what is needed now, reveal complexity only when requested

5

Test with someone who has never seen the interface — if they need instructions, simplify further
